If you’re searching for ways to steam up you and your partner’s bedroom adventures, sex toys are a great place to start, but for beginners, the numerous tips for using vibrators can be overwhelmingly intimidating. Vibrators take on a whole new purpose when they go from single-person pleasure to a duo entanglement, and apart from the obvious places to use them, there’s a whole world of sensation and intimacy yet to be explored with this handy device. In order to cut through the confusion felt by vibrator newbies, POPSUGAR spoke with two experts on approachable, nonobvious areas of the body that’ll turn the solo toy into any couple’s bedroom must have.
1. Embrace the Frenulum
“There is a spot that rarely gets talked about but is well-practiced. The frenulum, located just under the head of the penis, is the most sensitive part of a man’s sex,” Billy Beyer, founder of luxury toy brand Lickerish-Love, told POPSUGAR. The frenulum is a ridge of tissue that connects the foreskin to the penial shaft, and simply put, it’s the penis’s hot spot where even the lightest touch can elicit a grandly satisfying reaction. Beyer stressed that only a little vibration is needed to rev up the pleasure, and moving the vibrator gently to the balls is an extrasensational bonus.
2. Just the Tip
When trying new things, it’s always best to start with what you know. Although the head of a penis seems to be a straightforward area to test, it shouldn’t be overlooked, according to Jenna Schreck, a cosmic sex wellness expert at nowheylady.com speaking on behalf of Lickerish-Love. Lightly resting the vibrator on the penis head is a beginner-friendly move that can lead to expert-level results. “[There’s] bonus points for circling the area with your mouth first,” Schreck told POPSUGAR, adding that alternating sensations, whether that be different settings and speeds or switching between oral and vibrator, would really get the toes clenching.

3. Meet the Outer Labia
Another obvious area to begin your vibrator journey is the clit, and while that’s sure to get a big reaction, the clitoris is only where the fun begins. “You may want to go straight for the clit. Don’t. The clitoris isn’t going anywhere,” Schreck continued. “In fact, a clit is more than just the ‘button’ you see when she spreads her legs. Most of this pleasure organ actually isn’t visible to the human eye (unless you have x-ray vision).” Before heading for the clit, it’d be a welcome change to tease and stimulate the surrounding terrain, which builds up the sensation in the magic button. “By spending time around the entire vulva, you are increasing blood flow to the entire clitoris, meaning when you do go for what you can see of it, it will be exponentially more pleasure-full,” Schreck added. For an extra tease before reaching the clitoris, Schreck suggested starting with the inner thighs until they “wiggle, giggle, sweat, and groan for more.”
4. Highway to the Pubic Bone
Humans are inherently sexual beings, and the centers of sensation extend far past the nether regions. When the body is heightened by stimulation, the region right above the pubic bone can evoke surprising results. “You can test out the different intensities and rhythms of the vibrator here to tease your partner and see what they respond to,” Beyer told POPSUGAR. For partners who are super sensitive, the bottom of the feet and neck are other unusual places couples should focus on. An extra tidbit: rub an aphrodisiac oil on the feet alongside the vibrator use to heighten the experience. “Basically, my motto is there is no place that can’t be explored with touch and vibration,” Beyer said.
5. Just the Nipples
Another classic Schreck couldn’t leave off the list is the elusive nipple, fair game for all partners regardless of where they fall on the gender spectrum. The nipples and surrounding areola are well-known activators and intensifiers for sexual play. While nipple action for women is much more popularized, everyone else also deserves some nipple love. “In tantra, it’s believed that the breasts are the area (for women/those identifying as women) where erotic energy is created,” Schreck told POPSUGAR. Beyer added that placing the vibrator just under the breasts lightly, yet firm, should also be explored, even wandering toward the armpit if there’s a strong tickle response.

6. The Small of the Back
The small of the back may very well be the sexiest spot to admire on someone but somehow isn’t directly a sexual area of the body. In every romance scene, the action is just getting started when one partner rests their fingers on the small of the other person’s back, sending perceptible shock waves throughout their body. Well, these shock waves can be even more intense with the assistance of a vibrator. “Try placing the vibrator lightly at the top of the buttocks and slowly move it back to the inside of the groin and thighs while upping the pressure,” Beyer told POPSUGAR.
7. Go For the Perineum
For those who are willing to venture further down south, Schreck told POPSUGAR the perineum, which is the area between the anus and scrotum/vulva, is an exciting destination. The perineum’s main nerve sends sensation from the external genitalia, basically rendering this region highly sensitive and highly pleasurable. “It’s a nice foray into possible anal play, and even if that’s not your thing, it’s a good and very yum-worthy way to dip a toe into those waters,” Schreck said.
